In 2004, I fell in love with the viola, and played classical music in youth symphonies, all-state and college orchestras through 2012.
During college, I began to explore more improvisational music, and have continually expanded musically and creatively ever since.
I played with the indie band Bike Thief from 2012 until 2015, when I founded the project The Mysterious They. My most recent album is of myself singing mantras (Jaskaran), and I have performed and recorded with a host of other artists as well.
I also give lessons, play solo 5-string electric violin with looping and beat-boxing at yoga classes, and am the proud owner of The Hallowed Halls, a recording studio in SE Portland.
I am grateful for every opportunity to express myself through music, and inspire more beauty and connection in the world.
I give lessons from my home in the Cully neighborhood of NE Portland, and am willing to travel to your home as well. I pride myself on my ability to be patient, attentive, and to meet students where they are with their interest in playing. I work with children and adults, ages 5 and up. Call or email to schedule a lesson today.

Greg’s playing is tasteful and supportive in a variety of styles and moods. His persona makes for ease in playing spontaneous free form or rehearsed pieces. Highly recommended by my part.
Greg holds loving space with encouragement, patience, and kindness. He has the skill to be present and teach to what I bring to each lesson. As a result, I am developing the foundational skills I need to play the violin with joy and confidence! I am deeply grateful.
